Collections Overview
The Central Library services and facilities are available to anyone living, working or in full time education in Hackney. Stock available for loan includes books, videos, DVD's, music cassettes and CD's, scores, spoken word and language courses. The Reference Library is now housed here and offers study space and access to a wide range of directories, CD Roms, newspapers and magazines. The library also houses the Three Continents Liberation Collection including books reflecting the liberation struggles in Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as in the Caribbean and Britain. Materials are available in a wide range of different languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Turkish, Greek, Chinese and Vietnamese. There is a homework club, colour printer and colour photocopying available, 26 terminals, free access to the Internet and word processing, music listening posts, fax machine, self issuing service, video screen with access to digital tv programming, Black writers reading group, toy library. The libraries hold all types of music, spoken word and language courses except singles. Records only bought if not available on cassettes or CD format.
